The Missions
The Yale Chapter of The Envirolution organization will hold its inaugural Conference at Yale University on April 28, 2007. The Conference will be highly interactive and will include keynote speakers to open and close the festivities, themed discussion panels, as well as a "green" outdoor fair featuring eco-friendly businesses, non-profits, student groups, student projects, food vendors, and live music. The objectives of the Conference are to:
1. Generate more widespread awareness and understanding of current environmental issues and the direct impact these issues have on society in order to move forward in finding and implementing sustainable solutions.
Although the environment is often a front-page topic in today's media, the forecast is often fatalistic and change is thought to be difficult, impractical, and detrimental to the economy. Rather than focusing on the presumed challenges and obstacles to implementing change, The Envirolution Conference intends to highlight progressive solutions and opportunities.
2. Unite students and environmental leaders on a single platform to facilitate cooperation and promote open dialogs.
The Envirolution believes that interaction between proven leaders and eager students will inspire an environmental, humanitarian and entrepreneurial spirit in all. These collaborations will emphasize that preserving the environment is in everyone’s best interest, and thus we should work together to most efficiently achieve this common goal.
3. Showcase the opportunities for societal advancement, innovation, and profitability that prioritizing the environment provides for progressive individuals, companies, and organizations.
By providing testimonials from current progressive leaders in a variety of career fields, the Envirolution Conference seeks to highlight what successful individuals, companies, and organizations are currently doing to make the world a little "greener.” These success stories will make progress more tangible and help students realize that they can become environmental leaders regardless of career choice.
4. Demonstrate a variety of creative and easy ways to be more environmentally pro-active in everyday life.
The Envirolution organization wants participants to leave the Conference with a clear understanding of how they can personally make a difference. Attendees will learn from the panels, speeches and informational booths about living more in tune with the environment. We will provide tangible examples of this lifestyle in practice by "greening" the Conference. This will consist of reducing paper consumption, recycling, providing organic food, seeking corporate sponsorship to fund the offsetting of the Conference’s carbon footprint, arranging a busing system to transport students from other schools, and using biodegradable products whenever possible.
5. Unite on one platform all environmental and sustainability interest groups throughout the University and in New Haven to demonstrate our common interest in the environment.
There are currently many environmental initiatives at Yale College, the graduate and professional schools, and in New Haven. The Envirolution seeks to showcase these efforts to demonstrate to the Yale-New Haven community how pervasive environmental issues really are and the widespread interest in resolving them. The Conference will emphasize how collaborative environmental efforts can be more successful, inclusive, and empowering.
The Envirolution Conference extends an open invitation to students from other schools and universities, as well as members of the Greater New Haven community, to maximize outreach and impact.
The Structure
